The action drama Sapoot was released on November 8, 1996. The movie was directed by Jagdish Sharma and the producers were Rajan Sharma and Satyan.The main roles were played by Akhshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty and Sonali Bendre. Other important roles were played by Kader Khan and Prem Chopra. The music was given by Anu Malik and the singers were Sunita Rao, Asha Bhosle, Abhijeet and Kumar Sanu. The lyricists were Vinay Dave and Dev Kohli.

The movie revolves around gangsters. Singhania ( Kader Khan ) was one of the powerful criminals in the city. He had two sons, the elder one Raj ( Sunil Shetty ) who helped him in business and the younger one Prem ( Akshay Kumar ) who was more into enjoying life. His fame in the underworld had earned him many rivals. Among them was Dhaneshwar ( Prem Chopra ), who was a real threat for him. Singahnia tricks Dhaneshwar and gets him arrested for stealing diamonds.

Dhaneshwar was furious and wanted revenge. He hires Tajeshwar ( Mukesh Rishi ) to kill Singhania. Singhania was killed and his sons wanted retribution. Prem becomes a police officer. Raj starts cutting down Dhaneswar’s force and business. Both trap him to pay for their dad’s demise. Kajal ( Sonali Bendre ) and Pooja ( Raveena Tandon ) had played the role of the brothers beloveds.
