Bollywood romantic action thriller, Suhag, directed by Manmohan Desai and written by Kadar Khan was released on October 30, 1979. The movie starred Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor and Parveen Babi in lead roles while Rekha, Ranjeet, Amjad Khan, Kadar Khan, Nirupa Roy, Krishan Dhawan, Jeevan and Jagdish Raj also played significant characters in the film. The melodious music of the movie was directed by the hit veteran music director duo Laxmikant Pyarelal while the songs were rendered by Kishore Kumar, Mohammed Rafi, Shailendra Singh, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle etc.

Amit ( Amitabh Bachchan ) is living a poor lifestyle alongwith his father, Bhaskar ( Jeevan ). Amit is an alcoholic and a small time criminal. Amit come across a dedicated and brave police offcier, Kishen ( Shashi Kapoor ) and get impressed with him. He decide to go straight in his life. Kishen also starts considering him as his best friend. Amit is in love with a beautiful courtsen, basanti ( Rekha ) and wants to get married with her. On the otherhand, Kishen is in love with Basanti’s younger sister, Anu ( Parveen Babi ), who is unknown to the real profession of Basanti.

Amit is approached by a criminal named Vikram Kapoor ( Amjad Khan ), who wants him to kill Kishen for him. Amit tells about this to Kishen. They both then plans to frame Vikram. But unfortunately, Vikram manage to escape from there and in the process of catching him, Kishen looses his eyesight. Kishen then ask Amit to join police force so that he can catch Vikram. Amit does so and soon becomes a headache for the criminals.
