Bollywood movie, Suraj, directed by T. Prakash Rao and written by Abrar Alvi was released on March 25, 1966.The movie starred Rajendra Kumar and Vyjayanthimala in lead roles while Ajit, Agha, David Abraham, Niranjan Shah, Johnny Walker, Lalita Pawar, Mumtaz, Keshav Rana and Mukri also played important roles in the film. The melodious evergreen hit music of the film was given by the veteran music director duo Shankar-Jaikishen while the songs were rendered by Mohammed Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, Suman Kalyanpuri etc. The movie did exceptionally well at the box office window and its music was also appreciated by the audience.

Sangram Singh ( Niranjan Sharma ) is the loyal employee of Maharaja Vikram Singh, who rules in Pratap Nagar. Vikram Singh is too impressed by his loyal services from a long time. Vikram Singh make him Maharaja and promise him that his daughter, Princess Anuradha ( Vyjayanthimala ) will marry only his son, Pratap Singh ( Ajit ). Years later, Princess Anuradha visits to see the coronation of Pratap Singh alongwith her maid-servant Kalavati ( Mumtaz ). She meets with Pratap and after few meetings decides to get married with him. Kalavati is abducted by a bandit named Suraj Singh ( Rajendra Kumar ) and Princess Anuradha is very upset about this.

Vikram Singh is informed that Kalavati has been abducted by a bandit and Princess Anuradha is very upset with this thing. Vikram Singh becomes suspicious about the thing that why Anuradha is so worrying about the abduction of a maid-servant. Vikram Singh decides to visit there and shocked to learns that Kalavati is posing as Anuradha there and in reality his daughter is abducted by Suraj. What will happen next? Why Princess Anuradha was posing as a maid-servant?
