Tohfa was a family dram movie released on 3 February 1984.K Raghuvendra Rao directed and D. Rama Naidu produced the movie. The star cast of the movie involved Sridevi, Jeetendra and Jaya Prada while Kader Khan and Shakti Kapoor played the supporting roles.Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle and Kishore Kumar sang the songs while Bappi Lahiri gave the music for the movie.

Lalita ( Sridevi ) and Janki ( Jayapradha ) are two sisters .Unexpectedly , both get attracted to the man named Ramu ( Jeetendra ).However , Ramu is attracted towards Lalita and loves spending times with her. Both of them get intimate and soon Janki gets pregnant.Meanwhile, she also discovers that her sister, Janki had developed feelings towards her boyfriend.Therfore, Lalita decides to marry the villain ( Shakti Kapoor ) as soon as possible as until now no one is aware of her pregnancy.

Lalita also arranges Ramu’s marriage with Janki but Ramu is unable to accept Janki as his wife. Soon, Lalita murders her husband due to some reasons and is sentenced imprisonment for years. After her imprisonment, Ramu takes her child to Janki and thy further take care of the child. When Janki comes to know about her sister’s sacrifice towards her and Lalita’s affair with Ramu before marriage, she feels sorry. By the end of the story, Janki dies and she asks Ramu to marry Lalita as her last wish.
