The social movie Wafadaar was released on July 19, 1985. The movie was directed by Dasari Narayana Rao and produced by Shrikant Nahata. The main roles in the movie were played by Rajinikanth, Kader Khan, Padmini Kolhapure and Anupam Kher while the presence of Vijyeta Pandit, Satyen Kappu, Asha Lata, Shakti Kapoor, Paintal, Asrani and Sushma Seth supported the film. The music of the film was directed by Bappi Lahiri while the songs were sung by Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhosle, Bappi Lahiri, S Janaki, Mohammad Aziz and Vani Jairam.

The movie Wafadaar was a social film that revolved mostly around a man named Daya Sagar ( Anupam Kher ). He is a simple man who lived with his family consisting of his wife ( Asha Lata ) and his daughter Chanda ( Padmini Kolhapure ). They all were a group of happy people living in a happy family. Chanda has a good friend in Ranga ( Rajnikant ) and thus liked meeting him very much but this was not liked by her father who wanted her to get married to Prasad ( Shakti Kapoor ).

The twist in the story comes when one day Daya find that Ranga has an affair with another girl named Sita ( Vijayeta Pandit ) though the fact was denied both by Ranga and Sita. This made Chanda very confusing and was not able to make up her mind. The main twist in the story comes when Daya was told by a doctor who assisted his wife in her pregnancy that she had given birth to two daughters and not one. Everyone was shocked to hear the news.
