Chak de India has become the national song for victory and despite the fact that the song came from a blockbuster movie whose central theme was mainstream hockey in India, that too women’s hockey, the song has resurged ahead as the favourite song of all those singing and showering praises and encouragement, on the Indian cricket team, which has just returned from Johannesburg, South Africa, with the 12 kg World Cup, only to be greeted by mammoth crowds who thronged the Mumbai streets chanting the song, and welcoming their heroes back.

The song has gone on to epitomize Indian fervor, especially when it came to cricket, and what could have been better than a jubilant Shah Rukh Khan, who came on the field and hugged each and every member, while captain ‘cool’ Mahendra Singh Dhoni gifted his shirt to the excited son of SRK. Shah Rukh Khan sporting a pony was seen excitedly rushing down the stadium to join in the celebrations and much as much one would like to believe that this was a stunt for his movie Om Shanti Om, one cannot deny the fact that the very presence of the man who re-defined sports on the Indian celluloid meant a lot more to Indians than this narrow-minded view.

So what does the win mean for the Bollywood‘s drought of hits? It means first of all that audiences would flock in to see John Abraham’s sports flick Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal, which will hit the screens soon. Though the movie’s title song is not expected to become a rage as is the case with Chak De India, but who knows what surprise it might have in store for us all! Secondly, such a euphoric win calls for celebration and looking at the fact that nobody will forget the win anytime soon, people will rush to a theatre nearby, to celebrate. The three recent releases, all of which have been able to garner critical acclaim, would be the biggest beneficiaries: Manorama – Six Feet Under, Dhol, and Lions Of Punjab. Well we hope now that the spell of flops has begun to fate and many a potential blockbusters ready to be released, all this would mean a lot for Bollywood and we’ll keep you updated with the celebrations.
