Raj Kapoor and Nargis starrer romantic flick, Jan Pehchan, was released in the year 1950. The movie was directed by Fali Mistry. The other strcast of the movie includes Shyama, Jeevan, Amir Banu, Mukri, Sankatha, Amar and Neelam in important characters. The hit evergreen music of the movie was directed by none other than the famous music director Manna Dey while the songs were crooned by Talat Mehmood, Geeta Dutt etc.

Asha ( Nargis ) is living a poor lifestyle in a village alongwith her parents. Her parents are blind. Her father get married to another women after the death of her first mother. Her new mother, Rukmani, soon starts showing her true colours and starts treating Asha as a servant in the house. She then decides to get her married to an insane villager named Lallu ( Mukri ). All arrangements for their marriage is made by Rukmani as she wants to get rid of her as quickly as possible.

But just before the marriage could take place, it is revealed that Asha is pregnant with a child. Then a young man named Jeevan ( Jeevan ) comes forwards and offers to get married to her. Asha moves into his house to live. It is then, Jeevan reveals that Asha is in love with a guy named Anil ( Raj Kapoor ) and has been in an intimate relationship with him from a long time.
