Janmashtami is a Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Sri Krishna. Janmashtami is termed as the day of the grand celeberation of the birth day of Lord Krishna, who is belived to be an avatar of god Vishnu. Janmashtami is also known as Gokulashtami. Lord Krishna was born on the eighth day in Krishna Paksha during the month of ’shravan’ ( august-september ).

This festival is celebrated by youths by breaking clay pots called ‘ Dahi Handi ‘, filled with curd and brutter suspended high above the ground. Young people forms a pyramid to reach the pot and break it. This ritual is performed because of Lord Krishna’s habit of stealing butter in the same manner.
