Bollywood family drama flick, Jee Chahta Hai, directed by Bibhuti Mitra was released in the year 1964. The movie starred Joy Mukherjee and Rajshree in lead roles while Rajendra Nath, Poornima, Jeevan, Achala Sachdev, Pratima Devi and Shyama also played important characters in the film. The evergreen hit romantic music of the movie was given by the well known veteran music director Kalyanji Anandji while the songs were rendered by Mukesh, Lata Mangeshkar etc.

The movie starts with a young child, who get seperated by his parents because of floods. Years later, the child has turned into a young and handsome guy ( Joy Mukherjee ). He arrives in Calcutta and starts looking for a place to live. He learns that an old couple is letting out a room at very low rates but with a condition. The condition is that the room is available for couples to live only. He come across a beautiful girl ( Rajshree ), who also needs a room to live in.

He manage to convince her for pretending to be his wife so that they can get the room. Rajshree agrees to do so and they both get the room to live. But little does Joy knows is that the old couple with whom he is living are his own parents. The old couple reveals that Rajshree is the daughter of their best friends. They accepts her as their own daughter. It is then she reveals that she is been blackmailed by a guy for some reasons.
