Movie review of LAAGA CHUNARI MEIN DAAG
Directed by Pradeep Parineeta Sarkar, Laaga CHUNARI MEIN DAAG seems to be an interesting film, which also stars Abhishek Bachchan, Konkona Sen Sharma and Kunal Kapoor. Laaga Chunari Mein Daag had always been in the news — whether it was Rani Mukerji’s Varanasi stint gone wrong, or the cold war on the sets between her and Jaya Bachchan. It is based on a subject that the dream merchants never seem to get weary of. It’s based on journey of a woman who is forced to sell herself to meet her family’s needs.
Badki (Rani Mukherjee) is the elder daughter of a close knit family. Content in their rural life, they are unable to see the dark shadow of despair which looms, when the family meets with severe financial crisis. When things get worse, Badki decides to go to Mumbai and seek a living for the family.
Alone in the midst of the urban jungle of Mumbai, Badki battles with dark forces, keeping her focus on her motive to support her family and continue Chutki’s (her younger sister played by Konkona) education but enters the dark and horrific world of flesh trade… n gets transformed into Natasha n starts living a secret n murky life. When Chutki comes to Mumbai to work, things take a dramatic turn. Now she has to hide her new identity. Chutki meets success at work n find herself a life partner in Vivaan(Kunal Kapoor).
Badki finds the love in Rohan (Abhishek Bachan) who is also elder brother of Vivaan, but lets it slip away before it can blossom, as she does’nt consider herself good enough for him. She battles menace and blackmail alone, not letting these fall in front of Chutki and rest of d family.
But her dual life is revealed, and the two sisters are face to face, in a confrontation neither had expected. And when love beckons Badki again, the whole family is thrown in a storm. But everything falls back to place when Rohan declares that he is ready to accept her the way she is because he knows thats not exactly what she wanted to.
The movie is about woman empowerment and traces the journey of two sisters from their small town family to a big city, hence totally women oriented……….par excellent performance by all the three leading ladies.
Music is a total blend. All songs are totally situational and story moves ahead with each song.
