His recent movies have acted as sort of eye openers. His performance in the movie A Wednesday was widely appreciated by both the critics and the audiences.

Recently his movie Firaaq directed by Nandita Das has opened to very good box office reviews. The movie is based on the riots that took place in Gujarat in the year 2002.It shows the life of people in the riot and how it changed after the riots were over. It also shows the people who decided not to do anything to stop the riots and let the carnage go on.

The movie has also received some criticism for rubbing salts on the wounds. The actor replies back saying that you cannot run away from what happened it is a harsh reality and one should have the power and strength to see what was done. The nation has the right to see what transpires over there and the plight of the people affected by the riots.

The movie has been nominated in several awards category overseas and even one a few of them. He say s that there are some people in India who treat the Indian Muslims as people from Pakistan and who do not understand that we are as much Indian as they are. There are times when he has heard people saying to an Indian Muslim that he should go back. Things like these hinder the progress and cause communal tensions. We should avoid all this and move ahead.
