Ranaji – A mujra with something different
Actress Mahie Gill could not have asked for a more impactful debut. The character of Paro that she played in the movie Dev D has left a mark on the audiences. The performance was widely accepted by the audiences and the critics. She herself did not expect the movie to do so well commercially. The think that worked for her was having complete trust in her director Anurag Kashyap. She was truly the performer and what we call an actor in Dev D.
Anurag also offered her a cameo in his next release of the year Gulaal. The character she plays in the movie is more like the character of Chandramukhi. In the short part, she plays a mistress, a beauty parlor owner and a mujra dancer. The actress has again packed in a powerful performance in the small role. In the movie, she has two songs Ranaji and Chakmak on which she will be doing the mujra. She says the Ranaji is a special one as it touches down on important political issues like Saddam, Osama, The Terror Strikes, Uncle Sam and the state of our democracy.
Never before I think that a mujra song would have, issues like this highlighted in it but with Anurag you do not know what to expect. Mahie added that it was the way the scenes were shot in dev d that people were able to grasp what he wanted to show rather than to mark them as vulgar. She said that she even got a good response back home in Chandigarh were the women are not so open to these issues and that made her feel even better.
Mahie has made her first impression a lasting one and now there will be more expectations from her in the future projects.
