Supreme Court gave permission to Sanjay Dutt to go to New York to attend a malnutrition conference next month. He is going there as United Nation’s “goodwill ambassador”. K.G.Balakrishnan, Chief Justice, ordered the CBI i.e. Central Bureau of Investigation to release the passport of Sanjay Dutt. The bench also included Justice J.M.Panchal and Justice P.Sathasivam. He has to return to India latest by 20th February and after returning he has to return his passport to the CBI. Dutt was also granted permission to travel to Britain, South Africa and Thailand to shoot for his two films.

His advocate Hari Shankar filed a petition to the court so that he can get back his passport, which was impounded by Mumbai’s designated anti-terror court. Dutt’s passport was impounded when he was granted bail by the apex court. Dutt was convicted for the 1993 serial bomb blast in Mumbai and for possessing illegal fire arms.

It was senior counsel Fail S. Nariman, who appealed to the court for allowing Dutt to go to New York for attending a global malnutrition conference. Nariman appealed to the court saying that United Nation has organized this conference and Dutt has to attend this conference as United Nation’s “goodwill ambassador”. Court not only gave him permission to attend the conference, but it also gave him permission to shoot for two of his films, whose shootings were pending.

Last year also, Dutt was given permission by the court to go to Thailand, US and Malaysia so that he can complete the shooting of his two other films. He was granted permission on April 11 and was asked to return India by Sep 20 and return the passport to the CBI by the same date.

This time Dutt has got very less time to complete his tasks and his directors have really a tough time ahead.
