The honorable Supreme Court has made sure that Sanjay Dutt will not be contesting elections from the Lucknow for the Samajwadi Party. The ruling came, as a great relief for many people as allowing him to contest the elections would have sent out negative feelings. The reason that Sanju Baba was refused to contest the elections is that Mumbai TADA Court convicted him under arms act.

Dutt was charged with possession of weapons like AK-56 and hand grenades. The offence became a very serious one since the Mumbai was rocked by serial bombings during the same time. After a long trial Sanjay was finally acquitted and is out on bail currently. If he had been given the right to contest then there would have been voices with criminal records saying that they also want stay on their conviction since they are contesting elections.

SC went by the article 8 A of the People’s Act which clearly states that anybody acquitted for more than two years cannot contest a general assembly elections. Now his wife Manyata Dutt has come out as the front-runner for the seat. Sanjay would not act as a celebrity supporting his wife along with the likes of Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Prada.

Sanjay has said that he respects the ruling of the curt but nothing can stop him from helping the people of Lucknow. He said that he owes a lot to the state and would not miss this opportunity of serving back to the people. It is now left to the General Secretary of Samajwadi Party Amar Singh and Mulayam Singh Yadav to decide as who will replace Sanjay Dutt. Quite a big job to fill his shoes after the support that he had managed to gather for the party.
