Former popular bollywood actor, Shammi Kapoor, was born as Shamsher Raj Kapoor on October 21, 1931 in Mumbai, India. Shammi was the second of three sons born to Prithviraj Kapoor. Late actor cum director, Raj Kapoor, is his elder brother and Shashi Kapoor is his younger brother. Shammi started his acting career with Nasir Hussain’s Tumsa Nahin Dekha in the year 1957. His next film Dil Deke Dekho opposite Asha Parekh was also directed by the same director. But unfortunately noeither of the film did well at the box office. Shammi gave his first film in the form of 1961 released Junglee. The hit song ‘Yahoo chahe koi mujhe juglee kahe’ picturized on Shammi completely changed his image to a playboy.

His pairing with a newcomer Sharmila Tagore in Kashmir Ki Kali was also appreciated by the people.Shammi worked with actress Asha Parekh in four films among which the most successful one is the murder mystery titled Teesri Manzil released in the year 1966. When the shooting of the film was going on it’s full, Shammi Kapoor’s wife Geeta Bali died of small pox. He married again in 1969 with Neela. His last hit film as a lead hero was Andaz. After that his sudden weight gain didn’t allowed him to do further films as a leading man.

After that he turned towards playing character roles in bollywood movies. He also played Saira Banu’s father in Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna starrer Zameer, with whom he had been paired up a decade earlier in Junglee. He also directed a film titled Manoranjan but the film completely failed to impress audience. He kept on doing character roles in several bollywood flicks such as Prem Rog, Parvarish, Vidhaata, Hero etc.
