Slumdog Millionaire had won the Golden Globe award and the BAFTA award. It is said that these awards give you a very good idea about what is going to happen at the Oscars. All that came true on the 81 ST Academy Awards with Slumdog Millionaire taking home several awards. It was also a proud moment for India when more than one artist won the prestigious awards. A.R.Rahman, Gulzar Saab and Resul Pookutty won the Oscar. Danny Boyle won the award for the Best Director.

On the historic night, A.R.Rahman became the first Indian to win two Oscar Awards ever. He won the award for Best Original Score for his song Jai Ho. Rahman performed at the show with his tracks Jai Ho and tracks from his other movies like the one from Jodhaa Akbar .Rahman said that it is a dream coming true. He said that he had two choices in his life: love and hate. He chose love and that was the reason he was there. He shared the award for best lyricist along with Gulzar Saab. The award for the best sound mixing went to Resul Pookutty.

The composer has been receiving praises from all corners of the India and the members of the industry. People say that awards like these inspire people and seeing one of us get it will make the people believe that we can do it too. It will also help to reduce the gap between our industry and theirs. Before these awards, only two Indians had won the Oscar Award. Satyajit Ray won the lifetime achievement award and Bhanu Athaiya won the award for best costume design.
