Bollywood romantic movie, 1942: A Love Story, directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra was released on Decemeber 31, 1993. The movie starred Anil Kapoor and Manisha Koirala in lead roles while Jackie Shroff, Anupam Kher, Danny Denzongpa, Manohar Singh, Pran, Shakti Singh, Sushma Seth, Aashish Vidhyarthi, Raghuvir Yadav, Uday Chandra and Pramod Muthu also played important roles in the film. The superhit romantic music of the film was given by Rahul Dev Burman, Babloo Chakraborty and Manohari Singh in collaboration while the songs were rendered by Kumar sanu, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Lata Mangeshkar, Shivani Chattopadhyaya etc. The movie was one of the huge box office hit of that year.

Narendra Singh aka Naren ( Anil Kapoor ) is the son of a wealthy politician named Diwan Hari Singh ( Manohar Singh ), who is loyal to the Britishers. Naren meets with a beautiful girl named Rajeshwari Pathak aka Rajjo ( Manisha Koirala ) and falls in love with her. After few more meeting, Rajjo and Naren falls in love with each other. Rajjo is the daughter an Indian freedom fighter or revolutionary named Raghuvir Pathak ( Anupam Kher ). Diwan hari Singh also works as the informer for Britishers. He gives information to britishers that Raghuvir is planning something dangerous alongwith other freedom fighters against them. britishers attack on raghuvir’s home and kills him but Rajjo somehow namage to escape from there.

Rajjo meets with another revolutionary Subhankar ( Jackie Shroff ) and starts preparing for their plan. On the otherhand, Naren becomes upset with Rajjo’s sudden disappearance. He starts searching for her but all his efforts goes in vain. He get shocked when he learns that Rajjo is planning to kill British general with the help of Subhankar. He tries to convince her that what she is willing to do is not correct at all. But Rajjo knows what she is doing and she also seeks help of Naren in this. Now Naren has to choose one either his father or his love? What will Naren do now?
