The movie 1947: Earth was a social drama released on September 10, 1999. The movie was directed by Deepa Mehta and produced by Anne Masson. The important roles in the movie were played by Aamir Khan, Rahul Khanna, Nandita Das and Kittu Gidwani while the roles of Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Gulshan Grover were also significant. The music of the film was directed by A R Rahman and the songs were sung by Sadhana Sargam, Asha Bhosle, Sukhwinder Singh, Anuradha Sriram, Hariharan and Sujata.

1947: Earth was another great movie directed by the renowned director Deepa Mehta and was based on the partition saga. The movie was her second film out of the trilogy of films, Fire, Earth and Water. The movie was based on Bapsi Sidhwa’s Ice Candy Man. The movie starts when British who were ruling the India decides to quit their empire and are in the process of splitting the British India into the Indian and Pakistan nation. The story is also about an eight year old Parsee girl Lenny ( Maia Sethna ) living in pre-partition Lahore and enjoying her life.

Lenny travels to Queens Gardens daily with her beautiful Ayah ( nanny ) and Shanta ( Nandita Das ) who is a young Hindu girl with looks good enough to attract eager males out there. She is loved by everyone whether Hindu, Muslim or Sikh. Lenny was concerned about the first trouble she faced in her Lahore home which was a quarrel between Mr. Singh ( Gulshan Grover ) her Sikh neighbor and Mr. Rogers, a British Inspector General of Police who were there at her home to dine with her parents.
