Yesteryear hit bollywood movie, Abhimaan, directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee was released on 27 July 1973. The movie starred Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan in lead roles while Asrani and Bindu also played significant charcaters in the film. The superhit music of the film was given by famous music direcor, S.D.Burman and the songs were sung by Kishore Kumar, Mohammed Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar. The songs of the film were highly appreciated by the audience and also topped the music charts of that year. Jaya Bachchan won the Filmfare Best Actress Award for her performance in the movie.

The movie starts with a famous singer named Subir ( Amitabh Bachchan ), who went to see his relative in a village. there he meets with a beautiful girl named Uma ( Jaya Bhaduri ). Uma is also a good singer. Subir falls in love with her and proposes her for marraige. Soon they get married to each other. Subir then returns to mumbai alongwith Uma. Subir ask Uma to start her singing career. Intially Uma refuses to it but when Subir insists she agrees. But Uma being more talented than Subir starts getting more proposals of rendering songs.

Subir career falters and Uma becoes more famous that him. This sparks jealousy in the mind of Subir and he starts treating Uma very badly. Their realtionships becomes very bad and they decides to get separated. Uma also has a miscarraige under all these conditions. But how far will they go with this type of relationship? Will subir ever be able to overcome with his jealous mind or not?
