Abodh was a family drama released on 10 August, 1984 under the banner of Rajshri Productions Pvt. Ltd. The movie was directed by Hiren Nag while the producer of the movie was Tarachand Barjatya. The lead roles in the movie were played by Madhuri Dixit, Tapas Pal, Rajshri Nair and Sheela David. Other good supporting roles were played by Leela Mishra, Ashok Saraf and Shashi Kapoor. The music director of the movie was Ravindra Jain while the singers were Suresh Wadekar and Hemlata.

The movie opens with Gauri ( Madhuri Dixit ), a childish and wealthy girl living in a small town along with her family. Gauri is told by her parents that she is quite grown up and they had fixed her marriage. Gauri gets excited but soon all her excitement goes when she finds out that her would be husband is Shankar with whom she once had a quarrel at the village fair. Actually Gauri was too childish for marriage. After her marriage Shankar gets upset because she was not being intimate with him.

Moreover she was always engaged in playing with his younger brother. Gauri soon feels homesick at goes to her parents where now she learns what marriage is all about and how her husband and his family are her life. She then goes back to her in laws but Shankar is not very happy with her arrival and leaves the house to study at some other place. Gauri realizes that her earlier mistakes had made Shankar upset but now she wanted him back. Will Gauri be able to save her marriage? The movie was Madhuri Dixit’s debut movie.
