The family drama Agnee was released on November 18, 1988. The movie was directed as well as produced by J Om Prakash. The top roles in the movie were enacted by Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Amrita Singh and Tanuja while Chunky Pandey, Kiran Kumar, Alok Nath, Anjana Mumtaz, Mandakini, Moushmi Chatterjee, Asrani, Shafi Inamdaar and Satyen Kappu were also there in the film. The music of the film was directed by Laxmikant Shantaram Kudalkar and Pyarelal Ramprasad Sharma.

The movie Agnee was a social film that explores the daily lives of people. The story of the movie revolves around Shekawat ( Anupam Kher ) who is unhappy that his parents has named their estate and will to his sister Sonali ( Anjana Mumtaz ), and her husband, Pramod ( Alok Nath ). Now to gain the wealth and will to his name he hatches a plan. Sonali had given birth to a baby and this was the time when Shekawat was instructing his men to kill the child. Pramod overheard him and thus runs away with the child.

Shekawat’s men were running after Pramod and believed that they killed him however he was alive. Pramod hands his child Amit ( Mithun Chakraborty ) over to Sudha and her husband who already have a daughter named Ayusha ( Mandakini ). Pramod then finds himself in coma. Shekhawat manages to get his sister sign the estate in his name and then marries a wealthy but religious woman named Shobha ( Moushmi Chatterjee ) who subsequently gives birth to a son named Babla ( Chunky Pandey ).
