Akela was an action family drama released on 8 November, 1991 under the banner of Mushir Riaz Prod. Pvt. Limited. The movie was directed by Rajat Rawail and Ramesh Sippy and the producers were Ashok and Mushir Riaz. The main roles in the movie were played by Amitabh Bachchan, Amrita Singh, Jackie Shroff and Meenakshi. Other good roles were played by Shashi Kapoor , Aditya Pancholi and Helen. The music of the movie was given by Laxmikant Kudelkar and Pyarelal while the singers were Alka Yagnik, Sudesh Bhosle and Manhar Udhas.

The movie is about twin brothers, Jojo ( Keith Stevenson ) and Tony who are criminals and deceive the police as no one knows that they are two. In the movie Vijay ( Amitabh Bachchan ) is an honest and diligent police officer and has a younger brother Ajay ( Aditya Pancholi ) who has gone abroad for study. One day Vijay catches Jojo committing a crime and arrests him. Jojo’s lawyer easily proves that he was somewhere else. Vijay gets really puzzled that how could this be possible. Skehkar ( Jackie Shroff ), Vijay’s best friend consoles him that he will get Jojo soon.

One day Vijay goes to a movie Seeta and Geeta in which the heroine had a double role. Vijay understands the mystery behind two men at one place and finds out that Jojo has a twin named Tony. Vijay takes his revenge and gets both of them arrested but they somehow escape from the prison. They go to Shekar’s place to hide but he recognizes them and tries to contact Ajay. They kill Shekar and his wife. Furious Vijay wanted Jojo and Tony at any cost but the commissioner stops him from taking the law in his hands. What will Ajay do?
