Bollywood movie, Amar Prem, directed by Shakti Samanta was released in the year 1972. The movie starred Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore in lead roles while Vinod Mehra, Madan Puri and Bindu also played important characters in the film. The superhit music of the film was given by Rahul Dev Burman and th songs were sung by Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and S.D. Burman. The movie was the remake of a superhit Bengali film. The movie won three Filmfarer awards that year.

The movie starts with beautiful Pushpa ( Sharmila Tagore ), who is brought to Calcutta by her uncle named Nepali Babu ( Madan Puri ). He sold her to a brothel in the city. There she meets a business man named Anand Babu ( Rajesh Khanna ), who is unhappily married and is in search of true love. Anand becomes her regular customer and they both starts developing feeling for each other. Soon they fall in love with each other.

Later a family moves in the neighbourhood of Pushpa. Nandkishore Sharma aka Nandu ( Vinod Mehra ) is the son of the neighbourer of Pushpa. Nandu is also searching for some love which he bdoesn’t get at his home from his working father and stepmother. When Pushpa came to know that the family belongs to the same village as her, she starts showering her motherly love on Nandu. She treats Nandu just as her real son. But soon the Pushpa starts facing opposition from te people. What next?
