The comic movie American Blend was released on September 29, 2006 under the banner of White Stripes Entertainment. The movie has been directed by Varun Khanna and produced by Varun Khanna, Vishwaas Paandya and Krishna Datla. The lead roles were enacted by Anupam Kher, David Oyelowo, Dee Wallace Stone and Ranjit Choudhary while the supporting roles were played by Amita Balla, Delpano Wills and Amrapali Ambegaokar. The music of the film has been directed by Abu Malik.

American Blend is written as well as directed by Varun Khanna and is the movie that focuses on the culture of an Indo-American family living in Los Angeles. The movie portrays the story of an America based family headed by an Indian. The story of the movie revolves around Raj Chadha ( Anupam Kher ) who runs a restaurant called Bollywood Café in Los Angeles. He loves his Caucasian American wife Jayme ( Dee Wallace Stone ) and three children Nikita a.k.a Niki ( Amita Bhalla ), Brijesh a.k.a BJ ( Sunkrish Bala ) and Maya ( Kristin Erickson ) very much.

Raj had two children Niki and B.J. from his first wife and it was the second marriage for both Raj and Jayme. Maya was Jayme’s daughter from her first husband. Maya and her mother Jayme loved Indian classical dance Kathak a lot. Inspite of coming from different places and having different cultures they formed a happy family with Ameircan lifestyle but Indian moral values. Mercury ( David Oyelowo ) was BJ’s best friend and was a British street tap dancer finding it difficult to make it big in this field. BJ helped him find a job at Bollywood Café and soon Mercury got attracted towards Maya. Maya wanted to know her father’s name which Raj and Jayme have kept a secret.
