Bollywood movie, Amir Garib, written and directed by Mohan Kumar was released on 26 July 1974. The movie starred Dev Anand and Hema Malini in lead roles while Premnath played the role of anagonist in the film. The superhit music of the film was given by famous music director duo Laxmikant Pyarelal and the songs were sung by Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and Manna Dey. The movie went on to become one of the biggest hit of the year.

The movie starts with Manmohan aka Moni ( Dev Anand ), who works as a magician. However, he also lives another life of a thief named Bhagula Bhagat. He performs robberies in the house of rich people and spreads the looted wealth among poor people. No one knows about the real identity of Bhagula Bhagat. Sunita aka Soni ( Hema Malini ), is a small time ‘pocketmaar’, who is in love with Moni and always tries to convince him about marrying her. However, Moni never takes interest in Soni and her love for him.

Soni then meets with her wealthy father, Daulatram ( Premnath ), who she lost in her childhood. Daulatram brings her home and showers her with money and love. Soni then decides not to give much importance to Moni. Moni now starts taking interest in her but only to find that she is no more interested in him. In the meanwhile, Moni finds out that Soni is not the actual daughter of Daulatram and is trying to do some thing suscpicious. There are still more mysteries needs to be solved in the film.
