Amiri Garibi was a family drama released on March 23, 1990. The movie was directed by Harmesh Malhotra and produced by Pradeep Sharma. The lead roles in the movie were played by Jeetendra, Rishi Kapoor, Rekha and Urmila Bhatt while the presence of Poonam Dhillon, Raj Babbar, Sushma Seth, Shakti Kapoor and Neelam Kothari supported the film. The music of the film was directed by Laxmikant Kudalkar and Pyarelal while the songs were sung by Mohammad Aziz and Alka Yagnik.

The social movie Amiri Garibi was a family drama that revolves mostly around a wealthy Bombay-based industrialist, Kedarnath who is visiting a small town where his childhood friends Narayan ( Pran ) lives. Kedarnath was pleased to meet him, his wife Mrs. Laxmi Narayan ( Urmila Bhatt ) and their daughter Rani Narayan ( Poonam Dhillon ). He was dazzled by Rani’s beauty that he asked her to mary his son Rajesh ( Raj Babbar ) and also move with him to the city.

Narayan and his wife Laxmi were happy to hear the proposal and thus soon marriage of their son and daughter takes place. But Rani was shocked to receive the cold welcome that she received. She was not welcomed properly by her mother-in-law Sheila ( Rohini Hattangadi ), nor her husband and his sisters, Jyoti ( Neelam Kothari ) and Pinky. The twist in the story comes when Kedarnath passes away leaving Rani and Deepak to the wrath of Sheila who wasted no time in asking them to leave the house. She now wishes to marry Rajesh to Sona ( Rekha ).
