Former bollywood actress Amrita Singh was born on February 9, 1964 in Hadali, India. She belongs to a Punjabi Sikh family. She made her acting debut in 1983 with a love story titled Betaab. She was paired opposite another debutant Sunny Deol in the movie. The film proved out to be a huge succes at the box office. Her simple yet sexy look attracted the audiences to a large extent. Her next film Sunny was a moderate success followed by the biggest hit of that year, Amitabh Bachchan starrer Mard.

She also did a comedy movie in the form of Chameli Ki Shaadi opposite Anil Kapoor. After playing an important role in 1986 released Naam, she eventually become a renowned actress. She successfully co-starred Amitabh Bachchan for two films titled Jaadugar and Toofan. After that she also played some negative roles also in the films like Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, Aaina and Suryavanshi.

In the year 1993, Amrita decided to quit acting. She gave up her acting career for marrying Saif Ali Khan. The couple were separated in 2004. She made a comeback to acting field with a TV serial Kavyanjali on STAR Plus in 2005. Then she moved towards films and delievered another superb performance in Kalyug. She played a negative role in the film and succeeded in winning acclaim for her performance. She also played a role in Dus Kahaniyaan.
