Songs of Ankur
Bollywood drama movie, Ankur, directed by Shyam Benegal and written by Satyadev Dubey was released in the year 1977. The movie starred Sadhu Meher and Shabana Azmi in lead roles while Priya Tendulkar, Anant Nag and dalip tahil also played significant characters in the film. The melodious music of the movie was directed by The well known veteran music director Vanraj Bhatia while the songs were beautifully crooned by Mohammed Rafi etc.
The movie starts with a guy named Kishtaya ( Sadhu Meher ), who is living a poor lifestyle alongwith his wife Laxmi ( Shabana Azmi ) in a small village. kishtaya is deaf and mute. Both Kishtaya and Laxmi works for the wealthy landlord ( Dalip Tahil ). landlord’s son, Surya ( Anant Nag ) returns to village in order to look after the estate. He is also there to formalize hsi maraige with Saroj ( Priya Tendulkar ), who was forced to get married with him when she was young. Meanwhile, Kishtaya is beaten up by people when he is found stealing something from the fields.
Kishtaya dies leaving behind Laxmi alone. Surya then meets with Laxmi and get attracted towards her. He gets into an intimate relationship with her much to the chargein of his father. problem arises when Laxmi gets pregnant with Surya’s child and at the same time, Saroj also moves in to live with him in the house. What will happen nwo?
