Former bollywood actresss, Aruna Irani, made her Hindi film debut with 1961 released Ganga Jamuna. She played the role of younger character of actress Vyajyantimala Mala in it. She was then seen in a special song picturised on ‘Jumping Jack’ Jeetendra and her in the film Farz. She did a special appearance in the film title Aaya saawan Jhoom Ke which starred Dharmendra and Asha Parekh in the lead roles. Later she paired up with ace comedian Mehmood in several bollywood flicks such as Humjoli, Naya Zamana etc.

She once again seen opposite Jeetendra in the hit film titled Caravan. However, this time too she played the supporting actress in the film. But her performance in the film earned her the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. She kept on doing supporting roles in films like Buddha Mil Gaya, Andaz etc. She finally made her debut as a leading actress in Vinod Mehra starrer Garam Masala. After that she shared screen space with Amitabh Bachchan too in the comedy flcik titled Bombay To Goa. However both the films failed to do anything good for her career.

She then decided to continue with her supporting actress image and did films like Mili, Khel Khel Mein, Deewar, Jaani Dushman, Karz etc. She did a special appearnce in Sanjay Dutt starrer Rocky. She also gave a splendid performance in the comedy flick titled Angoor. She was highly appreciated for her portrayal of a cruel and greedy mother in Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit Starrer Beta. The last movie in which she worked was Shahrukh Khan starrer Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam.
