Bollywood action crime drama, Azaad, directed by Tirupati Swamy and written by Gopalkrishna Paruchuri was released on September 29, 2000. The movie starred Nagarjuna and Shilpa Shetty in lead roles while Soundarya, Prakash Raj, Raghunath Reddy, Tanikella Bharani, Bindu Anand, Urvashi Patel, Raghuvaran and Manichanda also played significant characters in the film. The melodious music of the movie was directed by the music director Mani Sharma while the songs were crooned by Abhijeet, Sukhwinder Singh, Sonu Nigam, Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik, Sunidhi Chauhan and Kavita Krishnamurthy.

The movie starts with a young and beautiful girl named Anjali ( Soundarya ), who is a journalist by profession. She is living a middle class lifestyle alongwith her father. One day while travelling in a bus, she meets with an accident. She manage to survive in that accident and witnesses a group of a rmed men killing a person. She takes photographs of incident. She then seeks permission from her editor to publish those photographs in the newspaper. But she is stopped by Deva ( Raghuvaran ) from doing so. He even destroy those photographs and strictly warns her for not telling about the incident to anyone.
