Baabul was a family drama released on December 8, 2006 under the banner of B R Films. The movie had been directed by Ravi Chopra and produced by B R Chopra. Actors in the lead roles were Amitabh Bachchan, John Abraham, Rani Mukherjee and Hema Malini. Significant roles were also played by Om Puri, Rajpal Yadav and Salman Khan. Music of the film had been directed by Aadesh Shrivastav and the songs were sung by Amitabh Bachchan, Shreya Ghosal, Sonu Nigam, Kunal Ganjawala, Alka Yagnik, Kailash Kher and Sudesh Bhosle.

The movie Baabul was a complete family drama and portrays the love between a father and his daughter-in-law. The theme of the movie is based on the subject of widow remarriage. Balraj Kapoor ( Amitabh Bachchan ) is a loving father and also an affectionate husband. His son Avinash Kapoor ( Salman Khan ) is also a caring husband and would do anything to win her over. Malvika Talwar ( Rani Mukherjee ) is the most loving wife and also a perfect choice. Rajat ( John Abraham ) also loved Malvika but is now happy as she is happy with her husband.

Balraj Kapoor is a rich businessman who knows how to live the life and is happily married to Shobhana ( Hema Malini ). She knows exactly what it takes to manage the home and relations properly. Balraj had an elder brother Balwant ( Om Puri ) who was totally committed towards his work. Avinash was abroad for his higher studies and returns home after a long time. For Balraj he is more of a friend than his son. Avinash meets a pretty painter Malvika and falls in love with her. Rajat also loved her but never revealed his feelings to her. Avinash dies in a car accident and Balraj asks Malvika to marry Rajat to find happiness.
