The family drama Babul was released in the year of 1986. The movie was directed by Govind Moonis and produced by Tarachand Barjatya. The top roles in the movie were played by Gyan Shivpuri, Brahmachari, Upasna Singh and Shreechand Makhija while the roles of Akash, Anjan Srivastav and Kanchan Rawal were equally important. The music of the film was directed by Naushad Ali while the songs were sung by Mohammed Rafi, Shamshad Begum and Asha Bhonsle.

The movie Babul was a family drama that revolved mostly around Nandini alias Nannu ( Upasna Singh ) who lived a poor life with her father Janak Singh ( Gyan Shivpuri ) who is now a widower living in the rural India. The thing that concerned Nandini was that while she was studying in her school, her father sold fruits right in front of that. This was not liked by her. Years later, Nandini passes her school examinations with flying colors, while Janak also progresses to a fruit and juice stall.

One day Nandini was sitting at the stall and comes across a guy named Ashok ( Aakash ). Both fell in love with each other. When Nandini’s father came to know about this, he became angry at first but later realized the fact and goes to talk to Ashok’s guardian Rameshwar about the marriage of the two people. Janak was humiliated there and was asked to leave. He was told that Ashok’s marriage was already fixed by his late father Amarnath.
