The social movie Banaras - A Mystic Love Story was released on April 6, 2006 under the banner of Setu Creations. The movie was directed by Pankaj Parashar and produced by L C Singh and Manorama Singh. The top roles were played by Urmila Matondkar, Naseruddin Shah, Ashmit Patel and Dimple Kapadia while the presence of Raj Babbar and Akash Khurana supported the film. The music was directed by Himesh Reshammiya and the songs were sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, Alka Yagnik, Shreya Ghosal and Sonu Nigam.

The movie Banaras - A Mystic Love Story was earlier going to be titled as Ek Dhun Benares Ki. The film has been shot at the heart of the beautiful city Varanasi and fills us with the most serene and beautiful locations of it. The movie displays the relationships of our humans with the God and of the earlier great men like Kabir with the city of Banaras. The story is also about a local beautiful girl Shwetambari ( Urmilla Matondkar ) who lives with her parents ( Dimple Kapadia and Raj Babbar ) and is Brahmin by caste.

Shwetambari is a student of science at some University in Banaras. Soham ( Ashmit Patel ), son of Babaji ( Naseeruddin Shah ) is working as a music teacher at the same university. Two of them suddenly found themselves in love and this afftected the people of Banaras adversely. Even Shwetambari’s parents were against their love as Soham belonged to a lower caste. Shwetambari then decides to leave her loving city Banaras and after 17 years, when she is now a music teacher, is in a dilemma whether to meet her dying father or not.
