Bollywood action thriller, Barood, directed by Pramod Chakraborthy was released on August 7, 1998. The movie starred Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon in lead roles while Rakhee Gizar, Amrish Puri, Aruna Irani, Mohnish behl, Mohan joshi, Ayesha Jhulka, Gulshan Grover, Johnny Lever, Rana Jung bahadur, Deepak Parashar and Arjun also played important roles in the film. The melodious music of the film was given by the music director duo, Anand-Milind, alongwith Aadesh Srivastava while the songs were sung by Abhijeet, Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan and Poornima. The movie was an average hit.

Police Inspector Jai Sharma ( Akshay Kumar ) believes that reputed person of the society, Mr. Singhal ( Amrish Puri ) is actually a criminal don. He wants to collect evidence against him but is always forced to stop his investigation against Singhal by his superiors specially Police Commissioner Kalinath Gaur ( Mohan Joshi ). Singhal’s one and only daughter, Neha Singhal ( Raveena Tandon ) meets with Jai and soon they both falls in love with each other. Jai and Neha wants to get married with each other. But Singhal opposes this marriage and forces Neha to stop meeting with Jai anymore.

Singhal wants Neha to marry Sanjay Gaur ( Mohnish Behl ), who is the son of Police Comissioner Kalinath Gaur. But Neha refuses to do so. Now the only alternative left for Singhal is to kill Jai at any cost. But he fails to do so and then he discovers the dirty truth of Jai’s mother, Gayetri Sharma ( Rakhee Gulzar ). Jai himself is unknown to this truth of his mother. Now Singhal decides to use this dirty truth of Jai’s mother to kepp Jai away from Neha. But there is also a truth about Jai’s father’s murdes which Singhal wants to keep secret.
