Bollywood musical comedy drama, Bawarchi, directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee and written by Gulzar was released in the year 1972. The movie starred Rajesh Khanna and Jaya Bhaduri in lead roles while Durga Khote, Usha Kiran, Asrani, Raju Shrestha, harindranath Chattopadhyay and Paintal also played important characters in the film. The melodious music of the movie was composed by the legendary music director Madan Mohan while the songs were beautifully crooned by Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey, Lata mangeshkar etc.

The movie starts with a family headed by Shiv Nath Sharma ( Harindranath Chattopadhyay ). The family comrises of a Ramnath Sharma ( A. K. Hangal ), Vishwanath Sharma ( Asrani )and his wife, Meeta ( Kali Banerjee ) and a beautiful young girl named Krishna ( Jaya Bhaduri ). The Sharma family is famous for not having any cook last there for more than a few days. No person wants to work as a cook in Sharma family. The house in which this Sharma family resides is named as Shanti Nivas. Sharma family desperately needs a cook but fails to get anyone because of their bad reputation.

Then a young guy named Raghu ( Rajesh Khanna ) enters in their house and offers to work as a cook there. Delighted Sharma family readily appoints him as their cook. Soon raghu becomes popular among all the members of Sharma family. He manage to win the trust of whole Sharma family. But everyone get shocked when Raghu and the family jewellery goes missing at the same time.
