Bollywood blockbuster movie, Betaab, directed by Rahul Rawail was released on 5 August 1983. The mopvie starred Sunny Deol and beautiful Amrita Singh in lead roles while Shammi Kapoor, Nirupa Roy and Prem Chopra played supporting roles in the movie. The superhit romantic music of the film was given by R. D. Burman and the songs were sung by Shabbir Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar. This movie marked the successful debut of both Sunny Deol and Amrita Singh. The film went on to become one of the biggest hits of that year. Very few knows that famous bollywood singer Sonu Nigam was seen as the young Sunny in the film.

The movie starts with Sunny ( Sunny Deol ), who is a young and poor guy living with his mother, Sumitra Devi ( Nirupa Roy ). His father Avenash was a big businessman who later went bankrupt. Sardar Dinesh Singh Girji ( Shammi Kapoor ) was one of the best friend of his father. But he turns back to Sunny’s father after he went bankrupt. Now, Sardar Dinesh Singh is one of the richest and most powerful men in the city. Roma aka Dinki ( Amrita Singh ) is a spoiled daughter of Sardar Dinesh Singh. She is Sunny’s childhood friend.

Sunny accidently meets with Roma. They haven’t seen each other for many years therefore Roma failed to remeber him. They quarrel with each other on several issues. Sunny decides to keep his identity a secret from Roma. But soon Roma comes to know that he is her childhood friend. Both of them falls in love with each other. When, Sardar Dinesh Singh revelas the relationship between Roma and Sunnt, he strongly opposes it. He also tries to seperate them but fails to do so.
