Songs of Bewaqoof


Bollywood musical comedy, Bewaqoof, written and directed by I. S. Johar was released in the year 1960. The movie starred Kishore Kumar and Mala Sinha in lead roles while Bipin Gupta, Vinod Mehra, Leela Chitnis, I. S. Johar, Asit Sen, Pran, Krishna Kumari, Sabita Mukherjee and Neelam Mirajkar also played important characters in the film. The evergreen hit music of the movie was directed by the veteran well known music director Sachin Dev Burman while the songs were rendered by Rahul Dev Burman, Manna Dey, Shamshad Begum, Asha Bhonsle etc.

Rai Bahadur ( Bipin Gupta ) is an advocate by profession and is living a wealthy lifestyle alongwith his wife, Meena. Rai Bahadur is worried about the fact that he has no heir to his property. He gets into an affair with a prostitute named Meher ( Sabita Mukherjee ). Soon Meher becomes pregnant with his child and Rai promises her that he will give his name to the child. Meena also gets pregnant and both the women give the birth to childs. Meher forces Rai to leave Meera’s son in an orphanage.

Rai asks a nurse to perform the task. But finally both the childs end up in Rai Bahadur’s home. Rai knows that Kishore ( Kishore Kumar ) is the son of Meher. He always tries to look after for every possible opportunity to throw him out of the house. Meena always stood besides Kishore and when she realizes that it would be diffcult for Kishore to survive in Rai’s house, she decides to leave the house alongwith him. Years later, Kishore is now a grown up guy and is in love with a beautiful girl named Mala ( Mala Sinha ).
