The movie Blue Umbrella was produced on August 10, 2007 under the banner of UTV Classics. The drama film has been produced for children and directed by Vishal Bharadwaj. Along with Vishal the movie has been produced by Ronnie Screwvala. The two important characters in the film were played by Pankaj Kapoor and Shreya Sharma while Manek Bedi and Deepak Dobriyal also played significant roles. The music of the film has ben directed by Vishal Bharadwaj.

The movie was earlier thought to be named as Chatri Chor and is actually based on the novel written by Ruskin Bond. The movie portrays the ill effects of desire and what one does to fulfill it. The story of the film is about a blue umbrella that is responsible for creating an argument between its possessor and its admirers. The child artist Biniya ( Shreya Sharma ), an eleven year old girl living in a mountain village of North India finds a blue umbrella one day. She decides to keep it with herself as she had not seen anything so beautiful like it.

Nandkishore Khatri ( Pankaj Kapoor ) who runs a small tea stall in the village, also felt same for it. Nandkishore loves pickles a lot and has a bad habit of cheating children and robbing their belongings. This time his new target was the fascinating blue umbrella but all his tricks of getting it went in vain so then he quit the idea of getting it. People of the village blamed the umbrella for disturbing the peace of the village. Soon the umbrella got the mythical status and the day it went missing, the villagers blamed Biniya for it. She then decided to find her. Biniya and Nandkishore started searching the umbrella together.
