The movie Chachi 420 was a hilarious comedy released on December 19, 1997 under the banner of Rajkamal Films Int. The movie was directed and produced by Kamal Hassan. The top roles in the movie were played by Kamal Hassan, Tabu and Amprish Puri. Other good roles were played by Om Puri, Johny Walker and Paresh Rawal. The music was directed by Vishal Bhardawaj and the singers were Hariharan, Asha Bhosle, Aditya Narayan and Rekha.

The movie opens with Jaiprakash Paswan ( Kamal Hassan ) and Janki ( Tabu ) fighting in court over the custody of their daughter. Jaiprakash was a dance assistant and a middle class man. A rich girl Janki fells in love with him. They marry and Janki gives birth to a baby girl. There were frequent quarrels between Jai and Janki and she moves to her dad. Durgaprasad ( Amrish Puri ), who always wanted Janki to be married in a wealthy family.

Jai, being not having proper resources was void of his daughter’s custody. Janki decides to hire a maid for her daughter, as now she was more into business with her dad. Jai cashes the opportunity and goes their as a woman Laxmi Godbole.Durgaprasad fells in love with Laxmi who resembled his wife. Thus, Kamal Hassan plays a double role. It’s a very interesting movie and one will surely laugh a lot.
