Bollywood fantasy flick, Chamatkar, directed by Rajiv Mehra was released on July 8, 1992. The movie starred Shahrukh Khan and Urmila Matondkar in lead roles while Naseeruddin Shah, Shammi kapoor, Tinnu Anand, Deven Verma, Malvika Tiwari, Rakesh Bedi, Anjana Mumtaz and Anjan Srivastava alos played important roles in the film. The melodious music of the film was given by well known music director Anu Malik while the songs were rendered by Udit Narayan, Sukhwinder Singh, Kumar Sanu, Poornima, Asha Bhonsle etc. The movie performed very well at the box office.

The movie starts with Sunder Srivastava ( Shahrukh Khan ) who wants to fulfill his father’s dream of opening a school in the village. But Sunder needs money for this and therefore he decides to go Bombay in search of a good job. But at the station his luggage and money is robbed by some conmens. Now Sunder has no money left for staying at any hotel. In the end, Sunder has no option left and he decides to spend night in an old christian cementary. There he meets with the ghost of Amar Kumar aka Macro ( Naseeruddin Shah ).

Amar was a criminal and was killed and thrown into the grave twenty years before by another criminal named Kunta ( Tinnu Anand ). Now Amar’s ghost wants revenge from Kunta and in this he takes help of Sunder. He also asuures Sunder that he will take care of him and also reward him with a huge sum of money at the end. Amar brings Sunder in a college and ask him to join as a games teacher in the college. Sunder falls in love with a girl named Mala ( Urmila matondkar ), who is actually the daughter of Amar but hates his father.
