The action thriller Chhal was released on August 9, 2002. The movie was directed by Hansal Mehta and produced by Nitin Patil. The major roles in the movie were played by Kay Kay Menon, Prashant Narayanan, Jaya Seal and Naved Aslam while Srivallabh Vyas, Manoj Mishra and Sanjay Mishra were also there in the film. The music of the film was directed by Viju Shah and the songs were sung by Alka Yagnik, Sadhana Sargam, Asha Bhosle, Shaan and K K.

Hansal Mehta’s Chhal was an action movie that explores the crime being spread in our country. The tagline of the movie, “Live by the gun, die by the gun” fits perfectly for it and will make you think more about the criminals and the crime. The movie is the story of an undercover cop who infiltrates the underworld and is thus bogged down in a web of dishonesty. The plan made by the police was that a cop will act as an undercover cop, joining a gang led by Girish ( Prashant ) and then supplying all the important information to the police.

The officer appointed for this task is Karan Menon ( Kay Kay Menon ) who joins a gang of mafia to supply the vital information to the police. The progress he made as a gangster under Girish was so remarkable that he caught everyone’s attention. The problems arise when back at police department; the mission was in danger of being aborted pre-maturely due to the interference of the politicians. The story takes such a turn that Karan was unable to decide between his duty and trust of Girish on him.
