Balraj Sahni and Shyama starrer bollywood family drama, Chhoti Behan, was released in the year 1959. The movie was directed by L. V. Prasad and written by Inder Raj Anand. The other starcast of the movie includes Radhakrishan, Nanda, Mehmood, Badri Prasad, Keshav Rana, Hari Shivdasani, Shubha Khote and Sudesh Kumar in important characters. The evergreen music of the movie was directed by the veteran music director duo Shankar Jaikishen while the songs were rendered by Mohammed Rafi, Mukesh, Manna Dey, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle etc.

Rajendra ( Balraj Sahni ) is living a poor lifestyle alongwith his younger brother, Shekhar ( Rehman ) and sister, Meena ( Nanda ). Shekhar is studying in a college. Rajendra is in love with a beautiful girl named Sheela ( Shubha Khote ), who is a school teacher by profession. They both decides to get married after Meena and Shekhar’s marraiges. meena’s marraige is arranged with a guy named Ramesh ( Sudesh Kumar ), who is a doctor by profession. Shekhar also finds a girl named Shobha ( Shyama ) for marraige.

Shobha is the daughter of a wealthy person. But things starts changing when Meena looses her eyesight in an accident. Her marraige get cancelled. Rajendra decide to remain single all his life so that he can take care of his younger sister. Meanwhile, Ramesh and Shobha get married to each other. Shobha convinces Ramesh to move into another house leaving behind Rajendra and Meena in their old house. What will happen next?
