The romantic thriller Dastak was released on November 29, 1996 under the banner of Vishesh Films. The movie was produced by Mukesh Bhatt and the director of the movie was Mahesh Bhatt. The major roles were played Sushmita Sen, Sharad Kapoor and Mukul Dev. The music was given by Rajesh Roshan while the singers were Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan and Abhijeet. The lyrics were written by Javed Akhtar.

In the movie Sharad Sule ( Sharad Kapoor ) plays the role of a mentally unstable person who on watching the Miss Universe Contest 1994, got mad for Sushmita Sen. He was thrilled by her beauty and was really impressed by her innocent looks. Once he got a chance to meet her and asked for an autograph on his hand, but Sushmita refused. After this his fascination towards her increased more and he wanted her in anyway.

In the hunt to get her, he starts killing people around her to get more close to her. He kidnaps Sushmita and takes her to an isolated island where he could express his true love for her. He even hurts and threatens Sushmita Sen unwillingly. All, this irritated Sushmita even more. She tries to escape from his grip but all her attempts were in vain. Police officer ACP Rohit ( Mukul Dev ) helps her to escape. The script is altogether a nice one.
