The social romantic and action film Dayavan was released on October 21, 1988. The movie was directed as well as produced by Feroz Khan. The significant roles in the movie were played by Vinod Khanna, Feroz Khan, Madhuri Dixit and Aditya Pancholi while the presence of Amala, Tinu Anand, Ramya, Amrish Puri and Aruna Irani were also there in the film. The music of the film was directed by Laxmikant Kudalkar and Pyarelal while the songs were sung by Pankaj Udhas, Jolly Mukherjee, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Anuradha Paudwal, Sapna Mukherjee, Mohammad Aziz and Alka Yagnik.

Dayavan was a hit movie of its time and was liked by almost all the viewers. The movie was a combination of social, romance and action elements. The story of the movie revolves around Shakti Velhu aka Dayavan ( Vinod Khanna ) who dislikes the South Indian police very much as he had witnessed his father’s killing by a local officer. The incident left him homeless and orphan. He soon becomes friends with another homeless boy named Shanker ( Feroz Khan ).

Shakti and Shanker lived together in the slums of Mumbai with a kind-hearted Muslim named Karim Lala ( Alok Nath ), and his daughter, Shama. Both the children spent their childhood here but when they matured both took crime as their career. But again they were shocked to see the brutalities of Police and that too at the hands of Police Inspector Ratan Singh ( Amrish Puri ) who is a corrupt officer. Karim Lala was arrested and hanged in the jail and it was after this that, Shakti killed Ratan Singh in the day time.
