Bollywood comic caper, Deewana Mastana, directed by none other than king of comedy, David Dhawan was released on September 23, 1997. The movie starred Govinda, Anil Kapoor and Juhi Chawla in lead roles while Anupam Kher, Reema Lagoo, Johnny Lever, Avtar Gill, Saeed Jaffrey, Upasna Singh, Shakti Kapoor, Himani Shivpuri and Satish Kaushik also played important characters in the film. The superhit music of the film was given by Laxmikant Pyarelal while the songs were rendered by Udit Narayan, Sonu Nigam, Vinod Rathod, Alka Yagnik and Kavita Krishnamurthy. Bollywood hunk, Salma Khna, was also seen playing a brief appearance in the film.

Rajkumar aka Raja ( Anil Kapoor ) is a conman who robs a huge amount from the railway treasury alongwith his close friend, Gafoor ( Johnny Lever ). Raja and Gafoor then run away from there to Bombay. Raja meets with a beautiful women named Doctor Neha ( Juhi Chawla ) and falls in love with her. Raja pretends to be a rich sincere guy in front of Neha and brings Gafoor to her clinic as a mental patient. Raja wants to tell her about his feeling but Gafoor ask him to keep patience for sometime. Raja waits for the right time to tell her about his love for her.

But another pateint, Bunnu ( Govinda ), who is the son of a wealthy businessman enters in the life of neha. Bunnu too falls for Neha. Suddenly Neha goes to Ooty with her family for outing. Raja and Bunnu also leaves for Ooty. There, Bunnu and Raja meets with each other and befriends. But soon they become enemy when they both learns about each others feelings for Neha. Gafoor tries to kill Bunnu but he survives and gives the contract of killing Raja to a contract killer named Pappu Pager ( Satish Kaushik ).
