Bollywood physcological suspense action thriller, Deewangi, starring Ajay Devgan, Akshay Khanna and Urmila Matondkar in lead roles was released on October 25, 2002. The movie was written and directed by Anees Bazmee. The other starcast of the film includes Suresh Oberoi, Nishigandha Wadh, Tanaaz Kareem, Farida Jalal, VijayendraGhatge, Seema Biswas, Tiku Talsania, Nirmal Pandey, Mohan Kapoor, Rana Jung Bahadur, Suhasini Mulay and Sushovan Banerjee also played important characters in the film. The melodious music of the film was given by Ismail darbar while the songs were rendered by Sonu Nigam, Udit Narayan, Jaspinder Narula, Kay Kay, Sunidhi Chauhan, Babul Supriyo and Mahalakshmi Iyer.

The movie starts with dynamic Raj Goyal ( Akshay Khanna ), who is successful lawyer by profession. He goes to attend a party where he meets with a beautiful renowned singer, Sargam ( Urmila Matondkar ). Raj falls in love with her at first sight. The very next day, a famous music director, Ashwin Mehta ( Vijayendra Ghatge ) is found murdered in his house. Sargam approaches Raj to defend the culprit, Tarang Bhardwaj ( Ajay Devgan ), who is her guru and a very good friend. Initially Raj refuse to take this case but when Sargam insists more, he reluctantly gives in.

Raj tries hard to prove Tarang innocent and finally with the help of a psychatricist manage to prove him innocent in the court. Raj covinces everybody in the court that Tarang is suffering from multiple personality disorder. There is another personality named Ranjit in his caharcter which comes out everytime he is in anger. It is also revealed that Ashwin was stealing the songs written by Tarang for using them in their movies with their own name. Tarang is freed by court. It is then only Raj discovers that he has commited a big mistake as Tarang is the real killer and there is no multiple personality disorder thing with him.
