Yesteryear hit, Deewaar, directed by Yash Chopra was released on 24 January 1975. The movie starred Amitabh Bachchan, Shashi Kapoor and Nirupa Roy in lead roles while Neetu Singh and Parveen Babi also played important roles in the movie. The hit music of the film was given by R. D. Burman and the songs were sung by Kishore Kumar, Manna Dey, Asha Bhonsle and Usha Mangeshkar. The movie was distributed under the banner of Trimurti Films. The movie became one of the biggest hit of that year. All the stars gave splendid performances in the film but Deewar clearly belongs to Amitabh Bachchan.

The movie starts with two brothers, Vijay ( Amitabh Bachchan ) and Ravi Verma ( Shashi Kapoor ), who are the sons of a union leader, Anand Verma ( Satyen Kappu ). The firm management under which Anand works proves him wrong and corrupt in the eyes of the union. Anand after getting a humiliating treatment by the union members commits suicide. The sons are then raised by their mother, Sumitra Devi ( Nirupa Roy ). With the passage of time, Vijay, who witnessed the bad behaviour of people in his childhood days, becomes a smuggler and a leading figure of the underworld while his younger brother Ravi becomes a police officer.

But the real problem occurs when the case of Vijay is handovered to Ravi. Meanwhile, Ravi romances Veera ( Neetu Singh ) and Vijay with Anita ( Parveen Babi ). When Anita gets pregnant Vijay decides to leave the path of crime as he does not wants his son to face the same humiliation which he has received in past. But now it’s too late for Vijay to return. Ravi decides to arrest Vijay and in the clash of two brothers Vijay dies.
