Veteran bollywood actor, Dev Anand, was born as Dharam Dev Pishorimal Anand on September 26, 1923 in Punjab, India. He did his graduation in English literature from the Government College, Lahore. He started off his career as an actor in 1946 released Hum Ek Hain. His first breakthrough came in the form of Ziddi in which he co starred Kamini Kaushal. The movie became a huge success so as he. He was next seen in the crime thriller, Baazi. He won several acclaims for his performance in 1958 released, Kala Pani, for which he won the Best Actor Award.

He shot to fame after the release of Guide in which he worked alongside Waheeda Rehman. The movie was directed by his younger brother Vijay Anand. He gave another hit film in the form of suspense thriller Jewel Thief in the direction of his brother. The next film they did together was Johnny Mera Naam in which Dev romanced beautiful Hema Malini for the first time. He also directed a movie on his own titled Prem Pujari but unfortunately the movie flopped. But in his second directional attempt, Hare Rama Hare Krishna, he managed to hit it at the bull’s eye.

He also holds the credit of giving two beautiful and talented actress to bollywood industry in the form of Zeenat Aman and Tina Munim. However, his last few films failed to do well at the box office. Though he is 85 years old now but still he is quite energetic in his works. His last film appearance was in 2005 released Mr Prime Minister which also failed to do well at the box office window. He was romantically involved with singer-actress Suraiya but her grandmother opposed the relationship. However, Suraiya remained unmarried all her life.
