The social movie Dev D is going to release on February 6, 2009 under the banner of UTV Spot Boy. The movie is being directed by Anurag Kashyap and produced by Ronnie Screwvala. The important roles in the movie are played by Abhay Deol, Mahi Gill and Kalki. The music of the film is being directed by Amit Trivedi and the songs are sung by Labh Jajua, Toshi, Joi Barua, Shilpa Rao, Amit Trivedi, Shruti Pathak, Bony Chakravarthy, Aditi Singh Sharma and Kshitij.

The movie Dev D is a modern and today’s interpretation of the largest selling classic novel “Devdas” by Sarat Chandra. The movie explains what would be the story of Devdas if he existed in today’s life. The characters of Dev, Paro and Chanda showcase the emotions of aggression and independence. The backdrop of the movie is the beautiful locations of Punjab and also of Delhi. The story of the movie revolves mostly around Dev D ( Abhay Deol ) who is a son of a rich business industrialist.

Dev was sent to London at the age of 12 for studies but returns after its completion to his hometown and also his childhood love Paro. Paro marries some one else and Dev goes into depression and thus goes deep into drugs and alcohol. Paro is his neighbor and childhood friend. Certain harsh circumstances pushed her to marry someone else than Dev. Chanda is a girl whose life was ruined by a MMS scandal and was now forced to live in isolation. She finds shelter with a pimp named Chunni. She is Leni, a college student in day but a high profile escort by night.
