Bollywood action flick, Dharmputra, directed by Yash Chopra and written by Akhtar-Ul-Iman was released in the year 1961. The movie starred Shashi Kapoor and Mala Sinha in lead roles while Nirupa Roy, Manmohan Krishna, Deven Verma, Rehman, Jagdish Raj, Indrani Mukherjee, Nissar and Tabassum also played significant characters in the film. The hit melodious music of the movie was directed by The music director N. Dutta while the songs were rendered by Mohammed Rafi, Mahendra Kapoor, Asha Bhonsle etc.

The movie starts with two families, one of Nawab Badruddin ( Ashok Kumar ) and other of Gulshan Rai. Despite of being of different religions they share a very close bond and sahre the same house. Nawab’s beautiful daughter Husn Bano ( Mala Sinha ) falls in love with a young man named Hamid and gets intimate with him. Husn Bano becomes pregnant and tells her father about Hamid. Nawab decides to arrange Husn’s marraige with Hamid but get shcoked to reveal that Hamid has already disappeared. Dr. Amrit Rai ( Manmohan Krishna ) and his wife assist Husan with the birth of her child, Dilip ( Shashi Kapoor ).

After learning about what happened to Husn, Dr. Amrit Rai decides to adopt Dilip. Husn then get married to another guy named Javed ( Rehman ) and moves to live alongwith him in different city. Years later, Husn and Javed returns to their home and are welcomed by Rai’s family. She insists on meeting Dilip but get shcoked to see that the grown up Dilip is a muslim hater and has even joined the forces with other extremists against Mulims.
